Christmas Posts

It's my favorite time of year, so I thought this year I would temporarily change my blogs color scheme to Christmas colors!  I haven't been able to think of anything new to write about that is Christmas related, though, so I thought I would just reblog my older Christmas posts.

The Christmas Story - In this post I point out some common misconceptions with the Christmas story as told in the Bible.

Music of the Christmas Season - Some good Christmas music!

The Christmas Truce - The story of the World War I Christmas truce and some of my own thoughts.

The Star of Bethlehem - Some thoughts on what the Star of Bethlehem may have been.

The Verizon Text Alert: A testing failure or success?

A while back, it was announced that the emergency alert system was going to be upgraded to include cell phone text messages (see this article here).  So in addition to the alerts you see on TV or hear on the radio, text alerts would also be issued.

Yesterday (12/12/11) in New Jersey, Verizon sent out a text alert telling people there was a "civil emergency" and "to take shelter now."  But there was no civil emergency.  The message was meant to be a test, but it wasn't labeled as such (see more details here).

So why wasn't it labeled as a test?  Was it an accident?  Or was the real test just to see how people would react to it?

Chupacabra vaccinations

Ever wanted to see a chupacabra?  Maybe you should stake out this veterinary clinic and see if any chupacabra owners bring one in for a vaccination!
