A true zombie attack?

On May 26th, 2012, a naked man caught chewing the face off of another naked man in Miami was shot and killed by a police officer in what appeared to be a "zombie-like attack."  The zombie was not only chewing on the man's face, but growled at a guy and continued to chew on the victim even after the officer fired the first shot.  The attack only ended after the officer fired several shots at the zombie, killing him.

So should we be concerned about a zombie apocalypse now?  I mean even the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website has a post about how to prepare for a possible zombie apocalypse.  This company is even selling live ammunition for shooting zombies and this company sells zombie targets just in case you want some target practice.

But this incident is unlikely to turn into a zombie apocalypse of hollywood proportions.  A hollywood zombie film is usually based on the premise of some sort of virus that turns people into mindless, flesh eating zombies.  This incident seems to be drug induced though...one theory is it is a drug called "bath salts," a drug referred to as the new LSD.  The drug makes users delirious and they can exhibit elevated temperatures (explaining why they may have taken their clothes off) and strength.  Apparently it can also make them extremely violent.  But if the incident is drug induced, then there isn't a risk of it being contagious like a virus and spreading.  So despite the incident being very much like a true zombie attack, it's highly unlikely we need to be concerned about an outbreak of zombies.

But in case you still want to be prepared for a zombie apocalypse anyway, you can always go to mapofthedead.com and look for potentially dangerous zones, as well the locations of places like gun stores, grocery stores, and police stations that you can print out ahead of time.

But I think the best way to prepare is to just stay off drugs.  :)
