The memory crystal that could last a million years

No news links post this week, but I came across this article from July about a type of memory crystal that could hold up to 360 terabytes of data and last for a million years.  The first thought that popped into my mind is what if some very ancient but advanced prehistoric civilization had developed something similar and we just don't know it?  There's that whole crystal skull thing where some people think the crystal skulls have some kind of recorded information on them...although personally I think the crystal skulls are most likely an archaeological hoax.  But what if it were true?

The professor who led the team developing the memory crystal was quoted as saying, "All we learnt will not be forgotten."

It's a nice thought...but what if there was some apocalyptic event and the people that came after that event didn't know how to read the crystals?

A memory crystal is certainly a great development though.  It can hold a lot of information so it could be useful now, not just a million years from now.  The professor was also quoted as saying, "This technology can secure the last evidence of civilization."

Maybe...but some drawings in a cave may be better evidence if no one knew how to read the crystals.
