Navy Adding Laser to Ship in Persian Gulf --- From the article:
Klunder said it costs less than $1 for one laser shot, which is significantly cheaper than the hundreds of thousands of dollars it costs to fire a missile.
The laser was temporarily installed on the USS Dewey guided-missile destroyer in San Diego last year (pictured). The Navy recently tested the technology on an unmanned craft, as evident in the video below. The drone is flying above the sea, catches fire, and then plummets into the ocean below in a ball of fire.
"The future is here," said Peter A. Morrision, program officer for the Office of Naval Research's Sold-State Laser Technology Maturation Program. "The solid-state laser is a big step forward to revolutionizing modern warfare with directed energy, just as gunpowder did in the era of knives and swords."
Iranian scientist claims to have invented time machine -- Don't get too excited about the title...it sounds more like a machine for predicting the future...and who know's if it can really even do that.
